January-Cosmic Snapshot

2024: the Year of the Future

Every year has the potential for at least one spectacular celestial adventure. In 2024 our future selves come into play, influenced by unique planetary shifts that ask us to re-invent our vision of who we might become.

On January 1, 2024 Mercury goes direct at 22 degrees of Sagittarius, allowing forward movement and greater clarity around themes of faith, hope, belief systems and how we expand our consciousness. You may not find all the answers this week, but at least you have a better understanding of the most important questions. Pay attention to the questions that are front and center to shape your journey into 2024.

On  1/4/24-Mars enters Capricorn, joining the Sun and Pluto in the sign of the Sea Goat. Sustainability, progress, commitment and fortitude are energized and strengthened now. Draw on sea goat magic to guide your ascent up your own personal mountain. Forward motion is possible but slow and steady wins the race. With Mars at the first degree of Capricorn and Pluto at the last degree-awareness of the life cycle of power structures is heightened. Systemized power grabs are likely, but there's also the potential to have greater energy to work for long term sustainability.

1/6/24-Sun in Capricorn squares Chiron in Aries (newly direct). Tender spots around leadership, self-direction, freedom and courage can feel amplified today. If independence and self-awareness are your growth edge, you might discover there are lessons to be learned around patience and long-range planning. Allow yourself to feel the fear and then commit to perseverance and cultivating inner fortitude.

1/8/24-Mercury final square to Neptune (Direct)

The messenger planet (Mercury) has one more energizing encounter with the planet of mystery, magic and illusion. Take time today to dream a bigger dream, infusing your thoughts and ideas with a sprinkle of fairy dust. Create a prayer in service of life. Use your words to heal.

Although not all of your fantasies will translate into reality, the power of imagination creates possibilities that may not have seemed obvious at first glance.

1/11/24-New Moon 20 degrees of Capricorn trine Uranus in Taurus

Capricorn is the sign of the elder. To paraphrase my teacher Steven Forrest, who says of Capricorn, “you can be a wise elder or an old fart. An elder is someone who young people seek out for guidance, an old fart is someone no one wants to listen to ”. In modern Western culture, (with few notable exceptions), Elders don’t often receive the respect they deserve.

Elders who have important wisdom to pass on are rarely  found on social media platforms, or celebrated in the media. More often they are ignored and unseen  in the public eye, or if they are lucky, they may be recognized by their own families or communities.

Capricorn carries the archetype of the Elder because Capricorn is the holder of history and keeper of traditions. Capricorn is the sign of maturity, sustainability, resilience and survival. How gracefully Capricorns retain their heart and humor and how willing they are to share their wisdom with the collective, contribute to their status as “Wise Elder” vs “Old Fart”.

As Pluto has navigated Capricorn over the last 15 years, we have reshaped our relationship with Capricorn themes.

The New Moon today loosely conjuncts Pluto in its final days of Capricorn while tightly trining Uranus in Taurus. There is an opportunity at this lunation to celebrate the traditions and the wisdom of the elders while welcoming the changes that the future brings.
1/13/24-Mercury re-enters Capricorn

The winged messenger in the sign of the Sea Goat allows us to communicate in a realistic way, shaping our verbal connections with strategic, practical vision. Your mind can ground itself in the rich comfort of the earth’s rhythm, secure in the rules of gravity.

How can you share your ideas with clear objectives?

What ideas have the potential for success?

When is the best time to share your thoughts?

Mercury in Capricorn showcases all the “C’s” of communication: concise, conservative, careful.

1/15/23-Sun Sextile Neptune

Feeling FERTILE? An abundant earth and water aspect between the Sun and Neptune amplify our human ability to create using our hands, imagination and hearts. Whether you want to make babies, paintings, food, music or connections between people, today supports growth and abundance. The warm, life giving gaze of the Sun meets up with the mystical mystery of spiritual Neptune, offering a moment of grace and possibility.
1/19/23-Venus square Neptune

The relationship challenge for the day involves broadening our definition of love. Venus in Sagittarius squaring Neptune in Pisces demands that love expand to include many diverse expressions that may conflict with the fantasy or illusions we hold about our relationships. Squares can facilitate evolution and creativity through conflict, so don’t be afraid to let things get messy today. Although this transit may not feel good in the moment, over the long term, it has the potential to add to your growth as a spirit.

1/20/24-Sun enters Aquarius/Pluto re-enters Aquarius/Sun Conjunct Pluto

The Sun conjuncts Pluto early in the morning, then moves into Aquarius in about 20 minutes later.  Meanwhile, later this same evening, Pluto re-enters Aquarius. Today heightens awareness of the mysteries of life and death, shining light into the darkest places and bringing opportunities to find treasures in the shadows.

Aquarius themes of community, technology (especially social media), innovation and friendship are seen through a combined Solar/Plutonian xray vision. There may be fear or apprehension as the truth is revealed, but it is only through identifying and cleansing the decay that new life can emerge.

1/23/24-Venus enters Capricorn

Venus in Capricorn introduces a relationship approach that thrives on tradition. Look at the long term in your connections with others-focusing on commitment and fortitude.

1/25/24-Full Moon in Leo at 5 degrees opposing Pluto newly in Aquarius

“On this Full Moon in Leo may your heart reflect the bright light of freedom, innovation and equality”.

The annual Full Moon in Leo encourages our passion, spontaneity and playfulness within the circle of community. Full Moon in Leo 2024 has a particular intensity as it opposes Pluto, newly in Aquarius. There may be a growing awareness of the split between the individual and the collective at this lunation. How do you maintain your unique self as you connect with the larger whole?

1/26/24-Uranus goes DIRECT at 19 degrees of Taurus

Uranus the truth telling, awakening, liberating planet with the oddest orbit pattern in the solar system has gone direct today after being retrograde since August of 2023. As of today all of the planets are now direct and will be until April when Mercury goes retro.

Uranus in Taurus has brought a new awareness of the rights of the earth and her creatures to be freed from a long tyranny of abuse. As the days go on we will see more signs of the earth liberating herself. Our perspective on what and who has value will continue to transform in surprising ways. There may be unusual discoveries of new life forms

Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius) from 15-23 degrees will be feeling this Direct motion the most.

This afternoon’s Full Moon in Leo gives us a chance to catch our breath and get used to the new, the strange and the just plain weirdness of the rapidly changing reality we currently find ourselves in.

As we strive to find creative, life affirming, playful Leo style ways to adapt to our shifting terrestrial reality, our humanity shines, allowing us to celebrate life as weird as it can be at times.
